Traveller's Reviews

We spent 10 days in South Africa going around many places in December 2016. Every aspect was arranged perfectly and went really smooth. Our flight to Cape Town was very delayed and our pickup vehicle couldn't find us but the attention provided to us through customer service was really quick and professional and we got our pickup arranged in no time. Our special thanks to the Megan and Matthys for taking special care in suggesting the best ones considering our two young boys and our group of eight. Even though we have travelled across the world quite a lot we wanted to go with private guided tour this time and i should say we got the best guides from Hilton Ross arranged by Discover Africa team during our Cape Town stay. The whole trip was very memorable just because of the people part of Discover Africa Group.

The girls can't stop talking about this trip. I think we were very lucky to have seen some of the sights that we were told are relatively rare. It was fascinating to see nature at work ... elephants chasing away the hyenas, the baby buffalo going deep into the water to ward off the hyenas, and finally, amazing teamwork by the hyenas to circle the baby buffalo and attack in turns. No textbook can come close to explaining evolution and the animal ecosystem than the three hours we spent watching the spectacle. At the Masai Mara, we witnessed the wildebeest migration ... crossing the Mara river. We can't wait to get back to explore more of Africa! We truly loved every minute of the safari. All in all, one of the most memorable and educational vacations we have had! Thank you again. It's a refreshing change from the usual travel companies that want to sell a package and move on. Needless to say, I will be referring my friends to you to plan their Africa vacation.

It was my husband's dream to travel to Etosha National park in Namibia. We had travelled a lot as a couple but now we were travelling with a 1-year-old. I wanted to speak to an expert so I contacted the Discover Africa Group. From the minute I spoke to them I was confident I had made the right decision. They recommend a great lodge just outside the Etosha,  which was much cheaper than staying inside the park. They made our trip hassle-free by putting together a great itinerary around Namibia, including our car hire. The consultant had expert knowledge and was happy to answer all my questions. We had by far the best holiday and would highly recommend using the Discover Africa Group. Thank-you Steve and the team. We are currently saving for our next Africa trip and will definately use you again.

We have just returned from our 3rd African safari, this time as far north as Zambia and had an amazing time. It was everything we expected and more. The scenery was beautiful and the wildlife spectacular and the kids loved every minute of it! Thank you Discover Africa for helping us plan another unforgettable family holiday! We will be back for sure!

What an incredible experience, we knew that people really want to see the river crossings, but Carel convinced us to travel during end January early February this year, we arrived on the plains at Ndutu almost as the herds arrived so we could not have timed it better - so much interaction and it is impossible to comprehend without seeing it for yourself – we will see you again – Thanks so much, Chris

I wish to say thanks to Megan for all your assistance in ensuring that me and my wife enjoy a wonderful holiday, a nice stay at the hotel with just minor issues, and the Hluhluwe Imfolozi park tour. We just wish to pass our gratitude for all the effort you put on our vacation. Your service I rate 10/10. The tour guide and driver Mr. Prince or Sibusiso made our experience unforgettable. He was friendly, patient, professional and most of all a very knowledgeable about the area and animals.

Discover Africa and Carel has put in such an effort for us to experience the annual wildebeest migration, meticulous planning and accurate predictions with logical and the best accommodation options both sides of the Mara River guaranteed us crossings, we did manage to see the herds cross on the Serengeti side and again on the Masai Mara side, it felt good that they had this covered! Thanks Carel, we see you next year – Jates and Hil

I would like to place on record the very important role that Discover/Overlanding Africa and in particular Steve Conradie played in making a success of our Africa trip (Cape to Kenya). The vital information that we were given (that you don't get in any travel guides) went a long way to making our trip just that much better than the usual safari! Your personal experience and inputs made all the difference. Thank you to Steve and the team. We will definitely make use of you when next we travel.

The day trip from Cape Town down to the Cape of Good hope was a highlight. Every turn was another breathtaking view. We stopped to see penguins, took a boat out to an island hopping with seals, and even biked past a family of baboons. All in one day! Other memories like driving a left-handed stick for the first time along the windy cliffs of the cape; getting lost in the vineyards with my fiancé; and sipping wine on the deck of a local bar with my fellow travellers and new local friends.

Thank you for putting together a trip of a lifetime at such short notice. Everything was exactly how we wanted it to be. The organisation was superb, which allowed us to maximise our trip. There is nothing I would have changed and I felt like you really set the trip up specifically for our style. We could not have asked for a better trip and can't wait to go back.

The service received from the staff at Discover Africa was fantastic. Dealing with Megan was a pleasure. She was able to create a unique package for us that both exceeded our expectations and fitted within our budget. My fondest memory was definitely the trip to Devil’s Pool at Victoria Falls. It really was a once in a life time experience and something I will never forget.

Steve, It has been so long, I hope you remember who I am, lol. As a I said before the trip was magnificent, a never-to-be forgotten experience! Thank-you for everything you and your staff did to make this one of the most fabulous experiences in our lives, we absolutely loved it! We’re all still talking about it at our social gatherings and everyone who didn't come is so jealous they weren't part of it. I have no doubt others will be looking at doing something similar in the not too distant future.

Our family (5 adults and 3 children) went to the Kruger with Discover Africa and all I can say is that it was outstanding! The service, the attention, the arrangements, the site, the lodge ... everything was absolutely perfect thanks to Discover Africa. We will certainly travel with them again on our next trip to Africa.

My young family and I utilised the Discover Africa Group over our 2008, 2009 and 2012 holidays - in total some 14 weeks through South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Our expectations in terms of itinerary planning and accommodation bookings were exceeded. The collective travel knowledge of this group was not equalled by any other tour operator that we had previously dealt with, nor since. The group was on call 24/7, had we experienced any issues with our travel plans. I highly recommend this company to anyone who wants an enjoyable, well-planned and informed travel experience.

Thank you Amanda for arranging that my sister could join mid-way through our trip from Cape Town to Victoria Falls. Africa travel is not easy, but your great help made it all possible. My sis and I shared some amazing moments in the Okavango and Zimbabwe. I love you guys!

Well planned safari and good service. Discover Africa planned our safari to East Africa and we were certainly in the right areas at the right time, our itinerary was well designed to maximize time with the migration and related sightings - logistics ran smoothly and all in all we feel that it was well worth it working with Discover Africa.

Two male lions tried to take on an older female lion. The alpha male recently died and they were trying to take over his pride. The female lion was having none of it and while the males tried to tag team her; she swatted her massive paw at them to shake them off. In the end, she won the fight, which we were told is not so common, and the males left her alone. That was one tough cat.

Waking up at 5:00 am to a bumpy ride all the way to a hidden hyena den, was something I’ll never forget. But the absolute best part was when the 1 month old cub peeked his head out to say hello. It was heartbreakingly cute.

All was quiet at Masodini Lodge when we heard the roars of a female lion calling for her pride to help feed her babies, she’d recently been wounded. She must have been at least 500m away but sounded like she was at the foot of our door. The sound still rumbles through me.
